Behind The Brush
This past spring, I gave myself a creative challenge.

Inspired by the colors and blooms appearing everywhere in Southern Ontario, I decided to spend some time painting flowers. If I'm being honest, floral painting has escaped me. I admire beautiful floral artwork, but I don't always feel confident creating it myself. In particular, I've struggled with making petals feel loose, expressive, and full of movement.
Rather than avoiding the challenge, I decided to embrace it and enrolled in an abstract floral painting course. The experience was a wonderful reminder that learning never really ends. While the course introduced me to new techniques, it also reinforced something I already knew: growth comes through practice.
I found myself paying closer attention to my brushwork, experimenting with different marks and strokes, and learning how subtle changes can completely transform the feeling of a flower.
I won't pretend I've mastered it. In fact, I still find it challenging. But that's part of the fun.
These unique, individual smaller paintings will make great collector pieces. I am excited to keep experimenting and learning.
Wishing you all the beauty and color that spring has to offer.
With gratitude,
Jackie
